Hiring a motorboat is one of the best ways to explore the coastline of Ibiza and Formentera. Motorboats are fast and are excellent for seeing the islands. They are ideal for discovering some of the smaller coves and experiencing the island from the sea. Most motorboats are available for charter with a skipper, or you can bareboat charter some of the smaller boats with the correct license. Many boats provide a selection of drinks on board, and we would be happy to arrange a restaurant reservation at one of Ibiza or Formentera’s top restaurants, most of which provide a tender service to pick you up from your boat. A motor yacht hire in Ibiza usually offers more flexibility over a sailboat or catamaran. This is due to a higher level of demand for motorboats in Ibiza, which has resulted in more availability for shorter periods and the motorboats are not based on the weekly Saturday to Saturday timetable.

Motorboats, motor yachts, speedboats and ribs are boats that are powered solely by engines, rather than sails. Motorboats are usually classified in groups by length, from 30ft, 40ft, 50ft and 60ft (8m to 24m). Motorboats that are larger than 78ft (24m) are technically referred to as superyachts. Superyachts can be with and without sails and are often just called yachts.
Motor yachts tend to be classic in style. They usually have an outdoor lounging area to the aft/rear of the boat which includes a sofa and table. Below deck there is a salon, cabins, bathrooms and kitchen. Great classic motor yachts brands for charter in Ibiza include the Sunseeker and Princess.
Open motorboats such as Vanquish, Fjord and Van Dutch are more modern and generally have an open-plan design. They usually have the same facilities as a classic motorboat. They have large spaces on deck (ideal for sunbathing) and many have an additional shade system that can be opened when anchored, a which is ideal to keep out of the midday sun in the height of summer.
Ribs are semi-rigid designs with rubber air-filled sides and are lightweight, high-performance boats with either inboard or outboard engines. These can hold 10-12 people and usually have a bimini shade that can be put up when the boat is anchored. Some ribs, such as the Magazzu, Sacs or Nuova Jolly, have a small bathroom.
When looking for a yacht charter in Ibiza, 12 is a magic number. This is because most motorboats which operate on a charter basis are licensed under Spanish maritime law to allow only 12 people in total, including crew, on board when under power. Some larger boats over 48ft (15m) can take 12 guests plus crew.
